Vista
We are in the process of migrating to Windows Vista in the Graduate Lab. Some of the advantages with this new infrastructure are as follows
- Roaming profile i.e. Your Documents, Desktop, Favorites and application preferences travel with you when you change workstations
- Your data in “Documents” and “Desktop” is centrally stored
- Remote secure access to “Documents” folder (SFTP to gradfs.ad.cs.sunysb.edu)
- Better Security, Upgraded applications, Modern Operating System
- Better printing compatibility
How to login?
Username: <CS Department Username> (e.g. foo)
Password: “Sbcs” + “Stony Brook ID” (e.g. Sbcs123456789) (Note: the first “S” is CAPITAL)
You will be prompted to change your password at the first login. The password needs to meet the following requirements
- Minimum 8 characters
- Must not contain your name or a dictionary word
- Must contain at least 3 of the character set (Capital letters, small letters, numbers, special characters)
Please note that this will not change your CS department password(s). You will be logged off automatically after 10 minutes of inactivity. Please ensure you have saved your work.
How to Print?
Printing has been upgraded in the Graduate Windows Lab to provide better compatibility with newer applications and speed up printing. "Publaser" is set to duplex printing by default. To print single sided, please choose "General Everyday printing" from the "Printer properties/preferences" on the printer selection box.
We would like to hear your feedback. Please send email to wreq@cs.sunysb.edu with comments/suggestions/issues/feature requests.
