Graduate Windows Lab

  • NO FOOD OR DRINKS allowed in any of the graduate windows lab. This will help us to keep a clean working environment for you.

  • Please do not unplug any computers in either of the Graduate Windows Lab. If you want to use a laptop, please use Room 1204 assigned specifically for this purpose.

  • Printers:

    • Please do not open the printer for any reason except to refill the paper tray. Mishandling of the printer or toner cartridge, leads to paper jams and lengthy printer repairs. This will cause delays in restoring printing service in the lab. If the printer is out of toner or the toner is low, please send email to wreq.
    • Printer usage is logged. Please use for homework and research only.

  • Graduate Lab Combinations

    • If you are a new student, you receive the combination on the printout when you checkin with the Graduate Secretary.
    • If the combination changes and you are a continuing student, the combination was emailed to you.

  • VC++ freezing when trying to build application:


    If VC++ freezes while trying to build it (linking) from your Unix home directory, copy the project to the c:\temp folder. Make sure you backup your directory regulary to your home directory, since c:\temp is cleaned on every reboot. Also, delete your project folder before you log off.

  • System Critical Patches and Updates:


    Critical Patches and Updates will be applied to the Windows systems between 3am and 4am every day. Sometimes a reboot may be required. In this case, you will receive a prompt to reboot the computer incase you are logged in.

  • Customizations on the machines:


    Files saved on the desktop will not be saved. They will be deleted when you logoff. In addition, any customizations which are not explicitly saved in your home directory, will be reset when you logoff. For example, IE bookmarks, wallpapers, etc.
