Computer Science New Building

The Department currently has over fourty faculty members and is expected to recruit additional members in the next few years. There are five main active research areas in the department: visual computing, logic programming/database, concurrency/verification, computer systems, and algorithms. The Department is in a stage of significant expansion, including a new Computer Science building, along with a new Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology (CEWIT). The Department is also associated with the New York Center for Computational Sciences (NYCCS) and New York Blue (ranked as one of the fastest supercomputers in the world).

Stony Brook enjoys close proximity to both New York City and Long Island's majestic ocean beaches. Its school districts are highly ranked nationally. Opportunities for industrial collaborations abound with many high-profile IT companies close by as well as Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). Moreover, the Computer Science Department offers a congenial working environment.
