RethinkDB, a startup company founded by three Stony Brook Computer Science Students was the subject of an enthusiastic article on TechCrunch http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/07/28/yc-funded-rethinkdb-a-mysql-storage-engine-built-from-the-ground-up-for-ssds/ and the story picked up by several other technology blogs.
The founders of RethinkDB include two Stony Brook Computer Science honors students (Michael Glukhovsky and Leif Walsh) plus PhD student Slava Akhmechet. Their innovative database technology for solid-state drives offers substantial speed improvements, lock-free concurrency control, and quick recovery from system failures. RethinkDB is funded by Y Combinator, a venture firm specializing in early stage startups.
