Luis Ortiz was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez (UPRM) from January 2007 through June 2008. From September 2004 through December 2006, he held a Postdoctoral Lecturer faculty position at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). From January 2002 through August 2004, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Computer and Information Science of the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Pennsylvania. From October to December 2001, he was a consultant in the area of artificial intelligence and machine learning at AT&T Labs-Research's Artificial Intelligence Principles Group at Shannon Labs in Florham Park, NJ.
Ortiz completed his Ph.D. (2002) and Sc.M. (1998) from the Department of Computer Science at Brown University and obtained a B.S. degree in Computer Science from the Institute of Technology (IT) at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.
Luis Ortiz directs the Machine Leaning Lab. The following is a list of current projects.

AWARDS & ACTIVITIES
Luis Ortiz received the NSF Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award in 2011. He is also a recipient of a National Physical Science Consortium (NPSC) Ph.D. Fellowship and an NSF Minority Graduate Fellowship.
