Undergraduate Studies

Computer science is the study of computational systems, including the design and development of software systems, the architecture of computers, the theoretical foundations of computing, and the application of computing to other disciplines. With recent rapid advances in hardware and software technology, computer science has become one of the most exciting and dynamic research areas and one that seems set to affect the lives of everyone.

The Department of Computer Science at Stony Brook is one of the forces helping to advance the future of technology. We offer two undergraduate programs in Computer Science (CSE) and Information Systems (ISE), both leading to a bachelor of science degree. Both programs have an excellent reputation, and in the most recent Gourman report of undergraduate computer science programs Stony Brook was ranked 15th in the nation and second in New York State.
