The Computer Science Department of Stony Brook University (SUNY Stony Brook) has tenure-track faculty positions for Fall 2008. Strong candidates in all areas will be considered, but we are particularly interested in receiving applications from highly qualified candidates in interdisciplinary areas or whose research bridges traditional academic boundaries, particularly high-performance computing, digital media, computer games, data mining/machine learning, artificial intelligence, computational neuroscience, computer-human interaction, and robotics.

The Department currently has 44 faculty members and is expected to recruit additional members in the next few years. There are five main active research areas in the department: computer systems, visual computing, logic programming/database, concurrency/verification, and algorithms. The Department is in a stage of significant expansion, including a new Computer Science building, along with a new Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology (CEWIT). The Department is associated with the New York Center for Computational Sciences (NYCCS) and New York Blue (currently ranked as the fifth-fastest supercomputer in the world).

Stony Brook enjoys close proximity to both New York City and Long Island majestic ocean beaches. Its school districts are highly ranked nationally. Opportunities for industrial collaborations abound with many high-profile IT companies close by as well as Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). Moreover, the Computer Science Department offers a congenial working environment.
