Danfords
A block of rooms is being held for reservations by CSF participants at Danfords, the conference venue, at a group rate of $169 (plus 9.375% tax) per night for single or double occupancy. This is the most convenient and comfortable, although most expensive, lodging option. Please call Danfords directly (+1 631 928 5200) to make a reservation, and mention CSF to get the group rate. A block of rooms is being held for CSF attendees until 5pm Pacific Time, 21 May 2009. After that, availability is not guaranteed, but available rooms will still be offered to CSF attendees at the group rate. Since we have a contractual obligation to fill a number of rooms at Danfords, we would appreciate your choosing Danfords and mentioning the CSF room block when you make your reservation.
The New Heritage Inn
The New Heritage Inn is a 5 minute walk from Danfords. CSF does not have a group rate here. Typical rates are between $119 and $139 (plus 9.375% tax) per night.
Stony Brook University Dormitories
Some rooms will be available in dormitories on the campus of Stony Brook University, about 8 km from Danfords. You can take a Suffolk County Transit Bus (route S60, S69, or S76) from the campus to the Port Jefferson ferry terminal, which is right next to Danfords. Typical rates are approximately $60 to $70 per night for 1 bedroom in an air-conditioned suite containing 3 bedrooms and a shared bathroom.
Update (16 June 2009): Dormitory rooms are available! To reserve one, use the Dormority Room Reservation Page. Note that, if you select a "double space", you will have a bedroom to yourself, but you will still share the rest of the suite (the bathroom, sitting room, etc.) with the people in the other two bedrooms in the suite.
Update (16 June 2009): The Suffolk County Bus requires exact change ($1.50). The bus runs infrequently in the evening, so you might find it more convenient to take a taxi back to the dorm in the evening. (You could also take a taxi to Danfords in the morning; it would be faster and probably more punctual than the bus.) A taxi ride between SBU and Danfords costs about $14 for the first person, plus $2 for each additional person, plus tip. To schedule a taxi ride, call Lindy's Taxi (631-473-0707) or A Cab (631-588-8881). You can schedule a taxi ride in advance (e.g., the previous day). If you don't, typical latency for a cab to show up is about half an hour.
