Time to take a break!

Every Friday afternoon graduate students and faculty get-together in the pit area for some snacks, drinks and informal conversation. The Donut Hours are sponsored by a group of graduate students, a laboratory or a faculty member.

How to host

Hosting a donut hour does not require an advanced degree, but here are some helpful hints that should make it less of a burden.

  • Number of people: Plan to feed upwards of 150 people.
  • Cost: A Donut hour will can cost anywhere from 50 to 100 dollars. but by smart shopping and spreading the cost across several people, it should not be that expensive.
  • Places to shop: Many options exist. If you would like to order something try Papa Johns, Dominos, Dunkin Donuts, and other retail locations nearby the university. Supermarkets like Stop and Shop, King Kullen and Waldbaums are a five minute drive.
  • Can I/we cook?: You can, and it's been done, and done well. It is, however, a lot of work and the kitchen in the lounge has only a sink. But if you can do it, you will achieve one of the finest Donut hours of the semester.
