523/524 Project Description

Interface for Federal Parts Database

The CASP Project Group is developing a part matching system for the Defense Logistics Agency. This system will identify manufacturers to make requested maintenance parts for military equipment. As a part of this project we need to build a software package that will import data from the defense department database and translate it into our internal Oracle database. We are iooking for a student who has good C programming skills to build this software. The 523 portion of this project will be to investigate the data available from the Federal Government and the programmatic C interface provided to access this data, create an Oracle database schema that can represent this data, and define the structure of a program that will read the Federal Data from provided files on CD ROM and import it into the Oracle database. This program should take advantage of the C-XSB and XSB-Oracle interfaces which have been developed in the Department. The 524 portion of the project will be to implement the proposed program and also create a utility to update the Oracle database from updated Federal CD-ROMs. If the 523 portion of the project is completed satisfactorily, there will be some support money available for the 524 portion.
