Problem Assignments (show your steps to solve the specified parts of each question):

Pages 61-68: 1.3ab[20+20], 1.4bc[10+20], 1.7abc[20+20+20], 1.9ab[10+10], 1.15a[15] & 1.18ade[10+20+25]: 13 parts;

          Hint for 1.3: the data in Figure 1.22 are for 2004-2006 processors, with fewer fabrication layers than the 2010-2012 processor chips assumed on page 31 of the CAQA5 text. See modified slide 25 of revised Chapter 1 lectures01+2+3 for the correct die yield formula for exercises 1.3ab. Note also that the area of an AMD Opteron FX-57 die in 2005 was less than 120 sq-mm versus more than 190 sq-mm for 2004 FX-55 die.

 

Pages B62-63: B.5abcd[10+10+10+10] &

          Define ten of the cache terms 5 to 38 in Cache_Terminology_Table.doc , using 20 words or fewer for each definition: 5 parts;
          (Phrases defined by few people will receive slightly more credit.)

Pages C82-86: C.1adf[15+15+10], C.2ab[15+15] & C.7ab[10+10]: 7 parts.

 

The problems’ completion times total 7 hours by H&P estimates on page xx, but you may need 20 to 27 hours since you are new to the style of H&P questions.
