Computer Systems Issues in Interactive Video Games
or
Can you write a Ph.D. thesis out of playing video games?
Despite the fact that interactive video games play an important
role in pushing the PC software/hardware technologies, academia
tends to dismiss it as insignificant because it is profit- and
entertainment-oriented. In this talk, I'd like to outline some
of the interesting computer systems problems that the Experimental
Computer Systems Laboratory is beginning to explore. Among them
are network protocols, hardware architecture, programming
environments, and compression issues.
