Laboratory Exercise - Week 5
This laboratory exercise is designed to increase your familiarity
with Netscape and the WWW.
Do each step in sequence, and free free to explore.

Click on the Netscape icon.

Hit the net "search button" and click
on Lycos.

Do a search for `presidential debate'.
Click on some related links and see what you can find.

Locate the White House home page.

Hit the "Go" button and move back to Lycos.
From there, select the on-line road maps function and
construct a map of your home town.

Visit the "What's New" and "What's Cool" buttons.

Find and check out the following useful sites:
(1) The Yahoo search engine,
(2) The AT&T 800 number directory.
(3) Stock Market results from the New York Stock Exchange

Under the View menu, select the "view document source" option.
This gives you a way to see the raw html code producing the WWW page,
which will be useful when you create your own WWW page.

Click the "Windows" option on top of the browser.
Select Netscape News.
When that is selected the News Group application will be started as
another window. After starting the News Group Reader, to list the
available news groups, go to Options at the top of the Reader. Then go
down the menu and select Show All NewsGroups. On the left hand side of
the Reader will list all the available news groups. They are in
Alphabetical order and the list is set up much like Windows 95 Explorer.
+ and - expand and contract the branches of the different news groups. On
the right hand side lists the actual messages within the selected newsgroup.

Check out some newsgroups.
Some newsgroups of interest are:
rec.arts.ascii, rec.humor, rec.music, alt.cd-rom.reviews, us.jobs.misc,
usb.* .
