Your grade will be based on three components: completion of a semester-long group software engineering project, completion of a written midterm examination on software engineering concepts, and class participation. More details on all three of these components will be discussed in lecture.
Software engineering project grading
For those groups that complete the project, the final grade for the group will be the average of the grades on the assignments related to the project, adjusted by individual contribution levels. Each student will periodically submit a survey rating the relative level of contribution of each member in that student's project group.
For those groups that do not complete the project, the final grade for the group will be the average of the grades on the assignments related to the project, but it cannot be higher than a B-.
Your grade for the project will make up approximately 65 percent of your final grade.
Midterm examination
The midterm exam is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, October 22, in class. Students will be asked to apply their understanding of the concepts covered in lecture to one or more software development scenarios, possibly including the current semester project. The midterm exam is worth approximately 25 percent of your final grade.
Class participation
Class participation will be measured using: (1) surprise quizzes; (2) your project presentations; (3) your evaluations of other groups' project presentations. Class participation is worth approximately 10 percent of your final grade for the course.
Academic Honesty
Each student must pursue his or her academic goals honestly and be personally accountable for all submitted work. Representing another person's work as your own is always wrong. Any suspected instance of academic dishonesty will be reported to the Academic Judiciary. For more comprehensive information on academic integrity, including categories of academic dishonesty, please refer to the academic judiciary website at http://www.stonybrook.edu/uaa/academicjudiciary/
