Splatting has been said to be suitable for efficient parallel implementation [12] and in fact several implementations of splatting have been done for parallel machines. The implementation described here is due to Ulrich Neumann [13]. The Pixel-Plane 5 [34] was used in his implementation, not only because it is a very fast machine but because of its unique architectural goal of being a fast graphics computer. The description of the architecture of the Pixel-Plane 5 is presented first, followed by the description of the algorithm used and its implementation.
