Surface Mapping using Consistent Pants Decomposition
|
|
|
- A powerful topological framework to compute global piecewise mapping between surfaces of arbitrary topologies.
-
Unlike most existing techniques, we handle surfaces of arbitrary complicated topology with great automation, and also handle
mapping between surfaces with different topology with great flexibility.
This framework integrates user intervention on feature alignment, topological evolution surgery, and the homotopy type of mappings selection.
It provides better mapping results on more complicated models, compared to other state-of-the-art mapping techniques.
-
Based on algebraic topology, the decomposition is implemented using the Dijkstra algorithm.

Globally Optimal Mapping for Surfaces of Arbitrary Topology
|
|
|
- The first work rigorously computes a globally distortion-minimized mapping between surfaces with nontrivial topology.
-
Unlike most existing techniques, which tackle the surface mapping computation
by hueristic segmentation followed by local optimization,
our method relies solidly on Riemannian Geometry as well as rigorous
mathematical analysis, and guarantees convergence to the globally unique result with
minimized stretching energy

Harmonic Volumetric Mapping
|
|
|
- An automatic and effective algorithm for computing harmonic volumetric map between solid models of the same topology.
- Given a boundary surface mapping between two models,
the volumetric (interior) mapping is derived by solving a linear system
constructed from a boundary method called the fundamental solution method.
- We demonstrate the computation result as well as the strong potential of
volumetric mapping in many applications such as shape registration, comparison, deformation sequence analysis,
tetrahedral remeshing and solid texture synthesis.

Polycube Spline
|
|
|
- We develop new modeling techniques for using the polycube splines in solid
modeling and shape computing.
- The spline is constructed on the polycube domain, based on the surface
mapping between the given object and the polycube model.

Matching Curves on Surfaces
|
|
|
- We design a conformal invariant as signature for simple closed curves on arbitrary genus zero
surface, which provides a classification for curves on surface.
- We present a surface segmentation and matching framework based on curve matching and transfer
using curve signatures. With such a mapping, surface difference distributions quantified and visualized.

Point-Cloud Surface Mapping for Meshless Simulation
|
|
|
- We design a new approach for the meshless thin-shell elastic deformation
and fracture simulation of point-sampled geometry.
- The deformation and crack are computed on planar domain,
based on the global conformal mapping from the point cloud surface onto plane
(as called point-surface parameterization).

Brain Image Analysis using Spherical Mapping and Spherical Splines
|
|
|
- We design an automatic and efficient algorithm to transform a brain
surface to a single spherical spline with maximal error deviation from the original data less than the
user-specified tolerance. Our algorithms is robust and accurate for brain surface segmentation, gyri and sulci tracing.
- The brain cortex surfaces are matched based on spline representation.
The matching are conducted on spherical domain by composing
conformal mapping between brain cortex surfaces and unit sphere.

News Analysis using Heat Maps
|
|
|
- We developed a prototype geographic news analysis and visualization system
called "HeatMap".
This project is part of the Lydia system and is carried out under the
supervision of Prof. Steve Skiena.
- For any given entity in the news,
we model the relative amount of exposure this entity has received over a
given period of time at every locale in the United States.
The value of such analysis for market research and reputation assessment
should be clear.
